Make a No-Sew Sleeping Bag!

Today I went to the craft cabin.  When I walked in our camp leader, Grace, waved me over to her table. 
"What are we making today?" I asked.
"No-sew, fleece sleeping bags."

First, I picked out some scissors.

Then Grace handed me some fleece.  That's a lot of fleece!

Then I cut out the rectangle.  First, fold your fabric in half.  Your feet will be where the fold is.  Then cut a rectangle 14 inches wide and 20 inches tall/long.  Fold the top layer of fleece about 5 inches back like the picture below.

Cut slits 1/2 inch wide and 1 1/2 to 2 inches deep.  Tie the ends into knots.  Once you get to a fold (either on the top or bottom) cut it like the picture below.  For the part you folded back you will have 3 layers of fleece to tie.

Cut off the extra fleece on the sides.

Your done!  Wasn't that super easy?  You can add a pillow by cutting another square of fleece and placing it on top of the top part/the part with no knots.  (If that makes any sense.)  Sew 3 sides, stuff with fleece, and then sew the 4th side.
After I finished I hurried back to our cabin to try it out and get some pictures.  As you can see Nadia photo bombed the first one. :)

It was so warm and cozy that I had to take a little nap!

Make Twisted Fabric Flower Pillows

Hi girlies!  So two days ago when we showed you here how to make a couch some of you asked how we made these pillows.  So today that's what I'm going to do.

You're going to need:

-fabric

-scissors

-hot glue gun (Don't we use this every time?☺)

-sewing machine or needle and thread

-stuffing

Cut a rectangle 3 inches wide and 4 inches long.  This is for the pillow part.  Cut a strip of coordinating fabric 2 inches wide and about 24 inches long. (You won't use all of this.)  This is for the flower part.

Put your pillow pieces right sides together and sew all the way round, but leaving about  1/2 inches open.  Right side out, stuff, and sew the opening closed.

Take your other piece of fabric and start twisting it.

Add a dab of hot glue and begin rolling it into a spiral/circle.

Once you have the size you want cut off the excess fabric leaving a little bit.  Add hot glue to the back of the flower and press the extra bit of fabric on top of it.

Add some hot glue to the back of the flower and press on to the pillow. 

Ta da!

Aren't they so cute?!?!  Have fun with these.  Try making several in different sizes for one pillow.  Be creative!

Make a Couch

Hi everyone!  Today I'm going to show you how to make a comfy, cushy, couch.
You're going to need:
-fabric
-cardboard
-hot glue gun
-scissors
-pencil
-ribbon
-fabric scraps, fleece or stuffing

 First start off with a shoebox and some extra cardboard.  (And yes, that's a pizza box.)

Place the shoebox on top of the cardboard and place your doll sitting on the shoebox.  Draw a line where your her shoulders are.  Draw a line the width of the shoebox.

Cut it out.

Tape the piece to the back of the shoebox.

We taped another piece of cardboard on top of the seat to make it sturdier.

Draw a line on the back of the couch where your doll's elbow is.

Place the couch on it's side on the cardboard.  Draw a line on the cardboard where the elbow line is on the back of the couch.

Cut the piece out twice as long.

Fold the cardboard in half on the line.  Tape to hold it in place.

Tape it to the side of the couch.

Cover the couch with fleece, fabric scraps, towels, or any other kind of padding.  We put some fabric scraps in an old pillow case.  We added some fleece at the arm rests.

Cover the couch in fabric.

Hot glue the fabric to the bottom.

Hot glue a piece of cardboard on the bottom.

Hot glue some ribbon around the bottom to finish it  off.

And you're done!

Make an Owl Pillow

Today I'm going to show you how to make an awesomely, epic owl pillow (Well, we think it's awesomely, epic).
You're going to need:
-3 different kinds of fabric
-Sewing machine or needle and thread
-2 buttons
-Hot glue gun
-Polyester Fluff (or something to stuff the pillow with!)

Draw and cut out a pattern piece for the pillow.  This is what mine looks like.

Cut out 2 pillow parts, 2 wings, and to circles (for the eyes).

Use a zig-zag stitch to attach the wings and circles to one of the main pillow pieces.  Sew the buttons on top of the circles.

With right-sides together, sew the back pillow piece to the front piece.  Sew the "U" part of the pillow, leaving the top open.

Fill with some fluff and sew the top ends close.  Hot glue on a small triangle for the nose.

And voila!  You're done!

Make a Gathered Scarf

 Hey all!  Happy Spring!  Well, it may be spring it doesn't exactly feel like it here.  So, today, to keep warm, I'm going to show you how to make a gathered scarf.

Your Going to Need:

-fleece

-thin elastic

-sewing machine

Cut the fleece 2-3 inches wide (we recommend 3, but we did 2) and 25 inches long, but you can make it longer if you want.

Place the elastic on the middle of the fleece on the wrong side.  Start sewing the elastic to the fleece making sure to pull the elastic so it gathers the fleece.  Make sure to pull it enough so it gets some good gathers, but not to much so it rolls up.

You're done!  These add a warm and springy (well, sort of) look to an outfit.

Make a Fleece Scarf

I don't know about you, but it sure is chilly where we are.  So, to help warm us up, I'm going to show you how to make a fleece scarf.
You Will Need:
-scissors
-3 different kinds of fleece
-sewing machine or needle and thread

 Cut one strip from each fleece that is 3 inches wide and about 25 inches long.

Line the pieces up and pin down the middle.

Sew a straight line down the middle of the fleece to sew the pieces together.
Cut 1/2-3/4 of an inch wide strips almost to the thread.  Repeat on the other side.

And you're done!  Bundle up and get ready to go outside!
